The American economist Brad de Long runs by far the best economics/current affairs website. Just one post will not do it justice as it is so good a reference to it should be posted every day. His articles are revelatory, his links fantastic. A viz-style caveat is required: it's not as good as it used to be. For some reason he has taken it upon himself (post-September 11th?) to constantly remind the world of how great the USA was, how it's WWII conduct was perfect, how it is the shining beacon of hope, how it never acts except in enlightented benevolence blah blah etc. Coming from a man so obviously supremely intelligent and a force for good it is doubly depressing. The Economist pointed out a few week's back about American's and the rest of the world -- you can tell them why they are disliked 'til you are blue in the face but they 'just don't geddit'.
