Has anything changed?
You need not head back in time to Arthur Mee's Enclyclopedia to find that kind of thing. Instead turn to the News of the World"Guy's mother Vanda [Pelly] would not discuss the content of her son's speech....It certainly wasn't disrespectful to dress as the Queen. No more than it would be disrespectful for a white man to dress as a black man. I myself went as a penguin. And you could argue that it was a good thing Harry wore that costume. After all it highlighted the whole debate about Auschwitz—and that's a positive thing, surely?"
Much that is obnoxious about the Upper Class is in this statement. The belief that an example worth repeating of not being disrespectful is for white men to black-up. The suggestion that dressing up as a Nazi is good, because it leads to a debate about Auschwitz... one can only wonder what 'debate' the woman means.
Truly astonishing.
